According to the Food & Drug Administration, adequate folate (folic acid) in healthful diets may reduce a woman's risk of having a child with a brain or spinal cord defect. Sources of folate include fruits, veggies, whole grain products, fortified cereals and dietary supplements. Folate intake should not esceed 250% of the daily value (1,000 mcg)

Eye & Brain Development”Choose a brand with a 100 mg daily dose of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), an essential building block of eye and brain tissue. A study published in the official journal of the American Acadamy of Pediatrics shows that supplementation of DHA during pregnancy benefits the baby's visual development.

Neural Development”Get the full daily recommended allowance of Folic Acid (800 mcg) for healthy neural tube development. Also look for the appropriate daily levels of Vitamin B6 (2.5 mg) and Vitamin B12 (8 mcg) for development and maintenance of the central nervous system.
